Missed the first Mind/Matters presentation? Watch “Helping Teens Who Cut” now

BCACC recently launched a new educational event series for the public called Mind/Matters.

These are free online events for the public that are focused on mental health topics that are relevant to the people of BC. We are looking to contribute to the wellness of all British Columbians by fostering community connection, breaking stigma, and providing empowering information to help people through complexity.

Helping Teens Who Cut: How Can We Help?

We held our first Mind/Matters session on April 21st and registration filled quickly. Grounded in current research and best practice, this 90-minute workshop helped participants learn about the functions self-harming behaviours serve for teens, how to differentiate these behaviours from suicide attempts, and moreover, what to do (and not do), in order to help.

According to the Canadian Mental Health Associations’ BC chapter, one in seven young people in BC will experience a mental illness at some point. It is crucial to understand the needs of young people and their families and to meet them where they are at to provide support and education. Talking about challenging topics helps remove stigma, and providing tools and information can empower families.

We invite you to watch the presentation at your leisure below.
