About Maureen

I am both a Counsellor and an Approved Clinical Supervisor (ACS) with the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors, having worked for 16 years in this profession. I work to help people make important changes in their lives. My work as a therapist brings about relief from stress, and helps people restore their confidence in themseleves, in others, and in life. I help people address the impacts of traumatic experiences (recent or historical) on their personal and professional lives. I support my clients to reality test their inner thoughts against their experiences, gaining perspective and adopting healthier ways to respond to problems. I work with people who suffer depression and anxiety, helping them to separate who they are (who they’ve always been) with what they feel or think — essentially I help them to get back in touch with their own deeply- held values, and see how these fit with their actions, their decisions, and how they view a given problem. My training in Satir Transformational Systemic Therapy enables me to work individually and collectively with clients who are seeking to address challenges connected to important relationships with partners, siblings, or parents. My work helps people become better choice makers, partners, spouses, and parents. I also work well with people who lack motivation and want to get back on track with their important life goals at home, or at work. I’m particularly skilled at working with parents of teens and young adults who want to reconnect and support them as they navigate the challenges of growing into adulthood. This includes working with parents to address drug and alcohol addiction, peer struggles, school performance issues, and family changes including separation and divorce, or the sudden illness of a parent or sibling. I also have extensive experience working with blended (step-parent) families and with parents whose teens are exploring identity questions and may identify as LGBTQ2SIA. I draw from a broad background of experience and clinical environments including several years working and supervising counselling teams in family therapy, working for over four years as a counsellor at a public youth counselling clinic, and my bereavement counselling work with individuals in hospice and palliative care.

I’ve trained in the US and Canada in Satir Transformation Systemic Therapy, Emotion-Focused Family Therapy (EFFT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Trauma-Informed Practice (focused on neurodiverse child, youth, and adult clients), Clinical Supervision and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT). I am also an approved service provider for Autism BC (MCFD).
